Monica Saltburned ’Em
Monica Garcia, a newcomer on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has made quite the impression. From her bold statements to her confrontations with the other housewives, Monica has certainly caused some waves. She has managed to upset the equilibrium of the tight-knit group with her contempt and malice. This is similar to the storyline we often see in movies and books, where a middle-class protagonist infiltrates the lives of the rich and disrupts their world. Monica has done just that with the Salt Lake City housewives.
In the show, Monica is introduced as Jen Shah’s former assistant, positioning her as subordinate to the other housewives. Unlike fictional characters who fabricate their backgrounds, Monica has genuine struggles, including financial difficulties, a toxic mother, and breaking away from the Mormon Church. She doesn’t hold back in sharing her hardships with everyone she meets. This vulnerability initially makes her appear as the underdog in the wolf pack, trying to show her submissiveness to the top dog. But it’s all part of an act to gain access to the inner circle.
Joining a tight-knit group with long-standing connections is not an easy task. The Salt Lake City housewives have known each other for years, some even being relatives. On top of their prior relationships, they have also bonded through their TV fame and the drama surrounding Jen Shah. Just as Oliver in the movie Saltburn infiltrated the Catton family through Felix, Monica used her connection with Jen to enter the group. However, her true intentions were revealed when she betrayed Jen by confessing to providing information to the Secret Service. This act of scheming has elevated her status from an unknown friend to a full-fledged housewife.
The show is also no stranger to rumors and gossip. In this case, Angie K.’s husband is at the center of the rumors. Monica takes it a step further by spreading a rumor about Angie’s husband having relationships with male escorts. When confronted by Angie, Monica responds by revealing her own personal drama, effectively disarming any potential secrets that could be used against her. Her strategy catches everyone off guard, leaving them speechless.
Monica doesn’t stop there. She even turns on Meredith, who had previously brought up the rumors about Angie’s husband. Monica approaches Lisa with suspicions that Meredith is spreading anonymous DMs about the Greek mafia connections of Angie’s family. The line between truth and deception becomes blurred, making it difficult for the other housewives to trust her.
The drama reaches its peak when it is revealed that Monica owes a substantial amount of money to Heather’s beauty lab. Not only did Monica fail to pay $2,000 of a $2,449 injections bill, but she also countersued, claiming the work was botched and caused damage to her face. Heather and Monica are now suing each other, which explains their seating positions at the reunion. It’s unclear if Monica strategically planned her actions to secure a coveted spot next to Andy Cohen, but it certainly adds to the suspense of the show.
While Monica Garcia is a real person, not a villain from a fictional storyline, she has certainly made a splash on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. It’s hard to determine how much of her antics are part of a master plan and how much are genuine. She may not be stealing country estates like in the movies, but she is definitely proving herself to be an expert player in the Housewives game. As this is only her first season, who knows what surprises she still has in store for us.
